So who’s the lowest on photogenic scale?

Todd Schnitt Todd Schnitt Bald
Todd Schnitt: This was the guy in the billboards with a bald Britney Spears. As seen in the first picture, he’s not winning too many “Sexiest Man” awards. But the bald one is just too freaky, and it’s the reason he’s up here.

Manuel Uribe again
Manuel Uribe: That’s not the worst picture of him. And that’s saying something.

Madeline Albright and Kim Jong-Il
Kim Jong-Il and Madeleine Albright: The frumpy factor in this picture can only be exceeded with the addition of more frumpily-clothed people.

Sheila
Sheila: Oh, no. No, no, no. Oh, no. No. No!

So…who’s the least photogenic?

Monday Fighter!

Monday Fighter!

(Monday Fighter! is a weekly feature which attempts to cheer up or inspire the masses who must start yet another work week. It will end when I run out of these ridiculous fortune cookies, which should be around Aug 6. As always, the fortune is photographed on a wooden table.)

Exchange Sac

Ever since the great death of my old blog, I’ve given up doing the chess puzzles. In fact, it’s been a several months since playing any tournament chess, just because of other stuff going on.

I don’t plan on resurrecting the puzzles right now, but still will throw an occasional position for your consideration. In the game, I was White and played the exchange sacrifice* 1. Rxe8. Play continued 1. … Rxe8 2. Nxd6 Rd8 (Qxd6 leaves me up a Pawn–I think–after 3. Bf4 Be5 4. Nxe5 Rxe5 5. d4. Although Black could very well win the b2 Pawn back, I’d still like White’s position.) But there are many possibilities for Black.

Does White get enough compensation after Rxe8? (I think it’s enough for equality, but not an advantage.)

Is Rxe8 satisfactory for White?

Screenshot from Fritz 10. Pretty nifty. But maybe I should stick with 2D?

*For you non-chess dorks, an exchange sacrifice means a player has voluntarily given up a Rook for a Knight or Bishop. A Rook is valued at a Knight or Bishop plus two Pawns.

Ekaterina Korbut…is female

It’s true.

Ms. Korbut is an entrant in the World Chess Beauty Contest, where female chess players post their pics, and we the players get to vote on them.

A couple of her pictures are so bad, some people (including me) thought she was a cross-dresser. But a female that has people speculating whether she’s male is clearly not the epitome of beauty. Check out her pics.

If you need something a bit better, I recommend the following for your perusal:

Kinga Harsanyi

Anastasiya Kovpak

Liudmila Mokriak Mmmm…legs…

Meanwhile, Maria Manakova gets the “trying way too hard” award.

* The front of page of the WCBC was hacked a little while ago. It was by some people calling themselves “Islam Attack”, although I’m pretty sure they have nothing to do with Islam.

Teens are getting smarter all the time

“I wouldn’t want to drive down the road and see strippers giving people lap dances and stuff. I don’t know, it just seemed wrong.”

Brillant. Maybe schools are actually teaching the critical thinking skills kids need.

Golf Course Lap Dances Spark Controversy (Warning:Sexual Content) (Warning added by NBC. That’s about as necessary as a lawnmower sticker warning people not to mow their feet.)

Sore displeased

The site was down earlier today, due to some database issues. Apparently, they had to do some sort of roll back, because all the stuff from July is gone. Grrrr.
