Procrastinating

I’m supposed to have what’s essentially stage 2 of a program finished for tomorrow morning. But my brain’s stuck in neutral, so I’ll try typing mindlessly until it gets going again.

Although this week hasn’t been a great week timewise to do so, I’m going to try to be on FICS next week; those of you who were interested in getting some games in, my handle is LiquidEggProduct (makes sense)

Thanks to Derek for rekindling my interest in blog stats. It’s interesting to see the variance in the types of regulars and semi-regulars. Person A visits practically everyday. Person B visits twice a month, and tries to catch up on a bunch of posts all at once. Trackbacks get target blogger’s attention.

Two days in the past week, this site has had a record number of unique visitors. Thanks in part to the guy from India who did a Google search for “C# interview questions” (who says stereotypes aren’t based in fact?) And the Lithuanian who wanted the secret code for Super Chick Sisters. And the South African who did an image search for “uckg”.

The most visited post of all time is the first Manuel Uribe post, by a very heavy margin. It’s received more hits than the second, third, and fourth most popular posts combined.

The voices of hippos, roaches, and trout cry out in protest

Bumper sticker seen on the road:

Bumper sticker: Animals Are Little People In Fur Coats

Undoubtedly, this was someone who believes the term “animal” is defined as a living being that’s either a dog, cat, or parrot. (Yes, I’m aware parrots have feathers, not fur.)

This isn’t getting anyone who doesn’t care about animal rights to hop on the bandwagon.

Random stuff

Companies are starting to release more natural juice type stuff products. It’s really sad that the labels have to remind us that natural juices settle, and they don’t necessarily taste the same exact way each time due to natural variation. We’re so used to fruit drinks as solutions, we’ve forgotten fruit juices are actually suspensions.*

Found out what Panel De Pon is (aka Tetris Attack). A couple of friends are crazy good at it, and have to give me about a four level difficulty handicap to make things semi-competitive, even considering my experience in video game-fu.

Another buddy has started getting into Go, and he went to a club in his area for the first time when I visited him. We played a game that weekend, which I won. I’m gloating now, because that will likely be the last game that’s competitive. Next time around, it’s likely that some sort of handicap will start looking mighty good.

*Yes, I threw in that sentence just to use the chemistry terms.

I don’t hate George Bush

Wow. Definitely some reaction to the President Cheney post (and that’s besides whatever’s in the comments).

To clarify: I don’t hate George Bush. I just don’t think he’s been that good of a president.

——

Here’s an idea for an experiment in blog traffic. Create a post that has the following properties:

The title is “George Bush and the Iraq War”
The optional excerpt is “George Bush and the Iraq War” (”Optional excerpt” may be specific to WordPress, otherwise, just whatever shows up on a feed)
The only content in the post is “George Bush and the Iraq War” (probably will work just as well with no content)

Then check for a traffic spike in a couple days. This is assuming, of course, the blogger doesn’t normally carry this kind of content normally.
