"We have to face it: in America today the way to have fun and celebrate is to break a store window and take something. That’s the way it is, today in America, and we have to accept it."

Brag and unbrag

Brag: Last night, obtained my highest FICS rating (standard time controls) at 1857. This is in the top 10%.

Unbrag: Some games have been seriously “lucky”. And if I’m in the top 10%, the overall level of play on the server must not be very strong.

Games often go like this:

1. I screw up the opening.
2. My opponent can’t take advantage.
3. I outplay my opponent in the middlegame and/or endgame and win. (“Outplay” usually means “I play bad, he plays worse”)

Two “gems” from last night that exemplify this perfectly:

Congrats! I had just made 1800 and then dropped a couple of games this week–now a sense of healthy rivalry gives me something to aspire to. Nimzovich had Tarrasch, Alekhine had Capablanca, I have LEP! See ya in the 1800s, :)

LOL. Good luck on getting back! I fully expect to drop back into the 1700′s once my insane good luck wears off.

Although my last two games were also come from behind victories, and 1900 is within sight.
