The e-mail spam filter is slowly learning. All the pharmaceutical e-mails are getting sent straight away; now it’s mostly the “Busty Asian [etc, etc.]” mails that the filter has to figure out…
Speaking of Asian chicks…I learned an important lesson today.
Today my friend and I went to a Chinese buffet, and my friend reminded me that there was the potential for a pretty waitress to, er, introduce myself to. After determining that the women there were out of my league (ie, 40-50 years old and likely married), I set my primary focus to eating and trying the few new foods that this buffet had.
After getting seconds, we were chatting a bit, and a voice behind me indicated a desire to pick up the used dishes. Without thinking I brought the dishes towards the purple-clad arms near my right shoulder. 15 seconds later, my friend said, “What about her?”
Instantly, I realized none of the out-of-my-league employees had worn purple. Whipping my head around, I tried to catch a glimpse of the alleged potential target, but by then it was too late. So my next trip to an Asian restaurant, I will be sure to sit with the back to the wall, so as to not miss any potential opportunities.
(DISCLAIMER: I don’t really go around to restaurants trying to meet women. But the occasional waitress or cashier will be, er, especially friendly and attentive. You never know.)

This site is pretty cool: purves-lab’s “See For Yourself” section. It lets you interact with various optical illusions, many famous, but quite a few I’d not seen presented before.

This illusion is very famous: which one of the two line segments is longer? You know the answer, of course; they are both the same length. But this page adds a little twist by letting you adjust the bottom line’s length until they look even to you, and reports the results. For me, there ended up being a 16% difference in perception versus reality.
Many of the illusions are more maddening (and fascinating) than this.

Companies are starting to release more natural juice type stuff products. It’s really sad that the labels have to remind us that natural juices settle, and they don’t necessarily taste the same exact way each time due to natural variation. We’re so used to fruit drinks as solutions, we’ve forgotten fruit juices are actually suspensions.*
Found out what Panel De Pon is (aka Tetris Attack). A couple of friends are crazy good at it, and have to give me about a four level difficulty handicap to make things semi-competitive, even considering my experience in video game-fu.
Another buddy has started getting into Go, and he went to a club in his area for the first time when I visited him. We played a game that weekend, which I won. I’m gloating now, because that will likely be the last game that’s competitive. Next time around, it’s likely that some sort of handicap will start looking mighty good.

OK, so I’m not overly familiar with female anatomy and clothing, but I kinda know some basics. Size 2 is small. Size 14 is not. Bra sizes start with an A cup, and by the time you get to DD, that’s considered big (tell me if I’m wrong).
According to this article, which explores the adequacy of current bra design, there are even larger sizes: E, FF, G, H, HH, J and JJ were all included in the study.
Whu…a JJ cup??? Unless that’s for the female version of Manuel Uribe, that screams breast reduction surgery.

Whither online relationships? This article discusses some of the issues, such as inside a virtual world like Second Life.
If someone already has a real life relationship, I don’t see how this isn’t cheating. If someone feels s/he has to hide the relationship from the significant other, that should be a friggin’ huge red flag.
Although I have no personal experience, some people have approached me in WoW (my main is female). People will tell me from time to time that my character is sexy and/or try to flirt. One guy even tried to “get it on” in an auction house with scores of other people in the room. I didn’t respond. (Being somewhat kid-friendly, WoW does not have any mechanisms for nudity or sexual actions. But you can’t stop words and emotes.)
Only one guy has ever bothered to ask whether I were female in real life. He actually seemed very nice, and I felt a little bad for dashing his hopes. Yes, technically, it’s an assumption that he was male in real life.

In Spanish, the letters “b” and “v” are pronounced more or less the same. That’s the only possible excuse I can see for the spelling in this Visual Basic tutorial.
Most of the time, the tutor Jalfaro spells Visual Basic correctly, but he decides to intersperse the tutorial with “Bisual Basic” and “Bisual Vasic” as well.
Is it just me, or is stating “Visual Basic es un lenguaje de progrmacion de VI Generacion” ([sic], translates to “Visual Basic is a sixth generation programming language”) a strange way to describe VB6? Maybe that’s a more usual diction in Spanish.

Helen A. S. Popkin*, who writes the Netiquette piece for MSNBC, advises us to prepare for the day when we are humiliated online.
Well, of course! In fact, that’s partly why this page exists: to attempt to disgrace myself before anyone else has a chance to do it. Then when I’m on YouTube doing something utterly inexplicable, people will say, “Oh, that guy. Yeah, it’s weird, but everyone knows he’s a buffoon in the first place.”
Some of my friends have also gone the self-humiliation route (although that was to try to win money.)
This begs the question: is it worse to make a fool out of yourself for money, or to embarrass yourself and have to make room in your budget to do it?

Stumbling on this article about conflicting studies about the health value of fruit juice was a reminder how often health advice can change. Pretty much, I ignore those guys and have drawn my own conclusion. A common sense way to obtain good health is simply to eat a variety of foods, don’t eat too much, and exercise. So to help you guys out, I’m introducing the Liquid Egg Product Diet.
The Liquid Egg Product Diet:
Alternate days 1 and 2 for variety. Optimally, the beverage should always be eggnog or a small carton of liquid egg product, but you can substitute water for one of the meals if you really want to.
Day 1:
Breakfast: An omelet and Eggs Benedict
Lunch: 3 or 4 hard-boiled eggs
Dinner: Egg fried rice and eggdrop soup
Exercise: Visit a local farm, break into the henhouse, and steal all the eggs
Day 2:
Breakfast: 4 eggs and a bowl of Liquid Egg Product Cereal
Lunch: Egg salad sandwich
Dinner: 1 or 2 packages of boiled Ramen, 2 eggs per package
Exercise: Find some neighborhood enemies and egg their houses

A study claims that the area around Chernobyl is not the best haven for wildlife. (Really.)
Some had argued that due to lack of humans within a 30km radius of Chernobyl, wildlife has flourished. However, a tiny variable known as radiation may not be quite so healthy for the animals.
