eHarmony

Have you seen eHarmony.com’s TV spots? They show a bunch of couples, but

1. No interracial couples.
2. Only whites and blacks, and the blacks all pass the paper bag test.

Feel free to contradict if you’ve seen otherwise.

  1. Also, at least last time I heard, they don’t allow gays to become members, which I think is lame. It is run by an evangelical dude. He says they don’t allow gays because they don’t have enough data.

Ummm, I have a suggestion for why you don’t have enough data, jackanape!

Straight outta compton, is a brotha who will smotha ya motha, and tell ya sista that I love her!

OK, 5 am super bowl eve. I must try to sleep….

  2. The founder’s reasoning is a little suspicious. The reasoning for his reasoning is called “the bottom line”. Probably would make a good politician.

  3. I agree with most of what you say here, but I don’t think the black couple are unusual in the looks dept., positive or negative.

I actually tried e-harmony once for awhile, and despite the 1,029 dimension of compatibility it always sent me women who didn’t like firearms, and I have a number of them and like to go to the range from time to time. I should have been looking on Objectivist sites or the NRA dating service, but it took me awhile to figure that out…

  4. Offtopic, but:
Teen faces WMD charge after plastic egg explodes

    The Associated Press

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - An 18-year-old Elizabethtown man is charged with possessing a weapon of mass destruction and other offenses over a plastic egg explosion.

Police say he ignited a plastic egg filled with plastic air-gun pellets in a flea market, hitting at least five people and causing alarm.

  5. @Wahrheit: The NRA dating service? Now that’s an organization that looks out for its membership!

The black people aren’t unusual looking. And if there were only 2 couples in the commercial, I wouldn’t have given their lighter complexion a second thought. But as a whole, advertisers’ preference for lighter blacks over darker blacks is striking. Seeing the eHarmony commercial with multiple black couples, all light skinned, simply reinforced the bias.

@Tacticus: That story is of course perfect for this site. I’ll run it by the Mascot and ask him what the reaction of the eggish community has been.

  6. I was waiting for a liberal to jump all over Tacticus’ comment saying something to the effect that it’s not too suprising given the Administration’s track record of correctly assessing WMDs…

  7. If I were gay, I would want a dating site that caters to gays. Why be all up in the mix with the others? It just gets confusing and awkward.

There was an Asian couple on an eHarmony commercial once. I can’t find it on Youtube but I’m sure it’s somewhere.

I’m offended by the founder’s “no data” bullcrap. There are christian and ethnicity specific dating sites - if eHarmony wants to be just for heterosexuals, they should just say so. Because if “data” were really what they’re after, they should let as many gays as possible join.

I don’t advocate the homosexual lifestyle, but any business that restricts based on sexual orientation will not receive my patronage. If someone told me I couldn’t do something just ’cause I happen to like men, that would be pretty shitty.

    Blue Devil…that was…high-larious.

  8. An official statement by EETE (Eggs for the Ethical Treatment of Eggs) on the eggish WMD will be released later today.

  9. @Allen: It’s tough gauging the political bent of the readers…it may be that we don’t have enough liberals. Or most of the readers are less clever than you.

@Annie: I refuse to patronize gay.com because they discriminate against heterosexuals.
