PETA newsletter report

Dogfighting is brutal, sadistic, and intolerable. I don’t need to relate the kinds of torture dogs go through for this form of entertainment, but anyone involved in this stuff has to be mindless or heartless. Some time ago, the feds found evidence of dogfighting and training in a property owned by NFL quarterback Michael Vick. It should be noted that he does not actually live there, but had at least one cousin living there. Over the past weeks, there have been rumors of the kinds of activities and speculation of how much the football star was involved. Today I received this from PETA:

NFL star Michael Vick, of the Atlanta Falcons, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on felony dogfighting charges. We need your help to tell the NFL that someone who allows this kind of neglect and abuse to occur doesn’t belong in its organization. Please write to the NFL to ask that Vick be immediately suspended.

I’m glad PETA will beat the drum on this kind of thing, but Vick has not been convicted of anything yet. Except, perhaps, in the court of public opinion (yay, pukey cliché!). So there will be a lot of PETA Moonies petitioning the NFL to suspend a possibly innocent person. Well done.

so far, i’ve managed to elude peta. i raise fighting sloths, and i hold illegal sloth fights, which are often attended by professional sports figures, members of the senate, scientists from NASA, and celebrity chefs. i won’t say who, but i can safely say, rachel ray can make an amazing sloth carbonera in under 30 minutes. the battles are quick and fierce, and there is a huge following. i do cheat though, i’ve genetically bred a FOUR toed sloth, and he fights against the regular three toed sloths, and the extra toe gives him an edge that others can’t beat. it’s brutal and violent, but i need the extra cash….

Yes, sloth battles. Quick and fierce, indeed. I’m putting down $40K on your four-toed freak.

I always thought a sloth fight would be similar to watching a turtle race…

In some places in the south, you can bet on grass growing.

In my front yard, you can bet on grass dying.

Sloth fighting is still legal in three states. Fighting sloths generally have it better than dogs (assuming they haven’t run up against a four-toe) because when they retire they can be taught to do click fraud.

As the Chair of Animal Chaplains.com, I have been horrified to learn about dogfighting and the cruel torturing, maiming, and killing that takes place in it. I am saddened that celebrities like athlete Michael Vick and rapper DMX have been implicated in such unbelievably bloody crimes. The blogosphere seems to focus on the wrong questions, IMHO. Instead of, “Are animals as important as humans?”, the real question should be, “Do animals suffer?”

Like humans, animals are sentient beings who feel pain. That is not only an intuitive reality, but a scientific fact. We are instructed by all of the worlds major faiths to care for animals in responsible, loving ways. It is our moral and spiritual obligation to protect them. Please join us on October 4th, 2007, in cities all around the world to celebrate “World Animal Day”. On that day, animals will be blessed and honored, and we will hopefully all realize how lucky we are to have them in our world. For more information, search on the words “World Animal Day” for a celebration near you.

donnie you should hold spider fights. they are “sentient” enough to fight yet don’t have the utilitarian appeal like puppy-wuppies. plus you’ve already shown an aptitude for handling them.

You’re close. “Eggs are people too” is our mantra; we’ll worry about those sloths later.
