Play Eggony: the “best” web game

Eggony is now playable. This game is safe for kids; blood and scantily-clad women are not found here. Play Eggony: the “best” web game

Boring story behind the game:

Back in October 2008, Kongregate released a tutorial dubbed “Shootorial” that taught how to create a shooting game in Flash. Intrigued, I took a look to see how they did it.

It was easier than expected.

I created a near-clone of their tutorial (ie, ripped the code and changed the graphics), dubbed it “Liquid Egg Shooter”, and added some features. Never got around to finishing it. But when Q asked where the Eggony game was? Might as well put out this one.

You’ll notice the lack of polish. There are no sounds for explosions and such. Most of the ships and enemies have no animation whatsoever (the graphic may be moving around, but the graphic is static). And some details in the How to Play might be wrong.

There was also supposed to be dialog during the game to advance the “plot”, but the only story is in the mission briefings before each level. And there were going to be more than just three levels. (You can tell because there’s no closure to the “plot”.)

Anyway, let me know what you think.

@Derek: Thanks, now I know there’s leverage to charge people $.50 per play.

@Mrs. Chessloser: Yeah, but who’s more boring, me or him?

@Annie: Yeah, those aliens were supposed to be chefs, I have to get a better graphic for them…

As far as firing: the game’s designed so holding down F is a bad idea. I usually fire until power goes to half, then stop until it refills.

Where’re the scantily clad women that you advertised? :)

Great game! Hope you’ll make more.

I was going to complain that we’re flying through the North Korean Airspace and don’t see Dear Leader, but wow.

The only thing missing from this game is a Grand Ayatollah and Chavez. And perhaps a certain Libyan leader.

@Anon: I can probably fit in some scantily-clad women in level 5.

Eggony is not really the game I wanted to make, but maybe in a few months or so I’ll be able to start on a new game. Too much programming to do.

I’ll add a level to Eggony every few weeks or so.

@Allen: LOL. Kim Jong Il is the natural choice for the level boss!

As far as those other leaders, right now they’re not on the storyboard, but we’ll see. As you might guess, Level 4 will have the Pope.

Then I assume the pope would be in the pope mobile.

I’d also like to recommend Putin.

Yes, definitely the Popemobile. Unfortunately, after level 5 the story will take us away from Earth, but at least there’s room for one more despot.

Ha. In sidescrollers, they always seem to have a score, but no one really cares. Only getting through the game seems to matter.
