Round 1 review

First note: Polly and l3rucewayne, just play your game when you can; it’s not going to be the end of the world if it’s late.

My opponent in Round 1 was kind enough not to rake my game over the coals in his post on our match. Frankly, he could have said “I can’t believe how badly Donnie sucks at chess!” and it wouldn’t have hurt my feelings, because I demonstrated not a modicum of skill in our match.

Move 7 killed me psychologically, and move 9 probably put the game out of reach.

Was looking at plugins, then i downloaded one and found you can’t install wordpress plugins on a wordpress.com blog!? So I was thinking of perhaps putting it on a server and had 2 or 3 questions. Is it free? How do you go about putting your blog on a server? and will that solve the plug-in problem?

Openings like the King’s Indian require care and precision in some lines to avoid being crushed early. I think that happens on occasion to most everyone that plays it. OTOH, when you successfully prepare and counterattack in the center or the king side and are victorious, it is sw-e-e-e-e-et!

    20. … f6 or Qe8 might have held on, by keeping the knight at bay.

    Isn’t 24.Ng5 mate in soon?

@l3rucewayne: 1. It is not free, but not an incredibly large expense. You can get a domain name + hosting for $50-$100/year. I’d check out godaddy.com.

    2. If you’re using Wordpress, they basically hold your hand, so you don’t have to know a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff. You do need a MySQL database, which comes with most Linux hosting plans.

    3. You’ll be able to add whatever plug-ins you want!

@Tacticus: Thank you for the warning; I was hoping more for an opening that required minimal preparation.

@gorckat: Yes, those would have been much better 20th moves.

@Ivan: Unfortunately, since this is round-robin, the schedule has been set and the tourney is closed. However, I will be holding another one after this one’s completed and will let you know once that gets close.

gorckat–I agree your 20th moves were improvements, but I looked at 25. Ng5 during the game and I don’t think it mates, Black keeps his queen on the 2nd rank and then if Rxf6, exf6 and the queen guards h7.

Thanks, I didn’t know about the behind the scenes knowledge requirement, that with the price tells me I need to continue for now to have my hand held. Maybe someday they will allow plug-ins, I found it odd that they have a section where you can search plug-ins, but not to use them for their servers. And such interesting ones too… sigh.

@Wahrheit: It’s just as well; a slow death was about as effective.

@l3rucewayne: If you really want your own implementation, maybe we can work something out. E-mail me (use the link on the top).
