Yesterday, I got my ballot for voting on new members for the US Chess Federation’s executive board.

I won’t say much about most of the rest of them, except that Susan Polgar’s probably a shoo-in (simply because she’s one of the famous Polgar sisters and is slightly attractive). The guy who’s incredibly compelling is Sam Sloan. (His website has some gems, although it seems long and boring.)

Take a look at these pictures. He looks absolutely seedy, suspicious, or something.*

Sam Sloan A Younger Sam Sloan

I was going to vote for him, just because he’s interesting, but there’s a little too much controversy. Like federal kidnapping charges in multiple countries. From best I can tell, he’s somewhat unhinged, but probably mostly well-meaning–or at least believes he’s in the right.

ADDENDUM: I forgot to mention he’s currently on the board, and accused of making false accusations. (Could this be a false accusation in itself?) Good times.

*If you went to my high school, you might agree he’s reminiscent of Hubenschmidt. Possibly as smart, too. He was the last non-lawyer to argue orally in front of the Supreme Court and win.

  2. He doesn’t seem like the type to worry about moisturizer.
