So I ran into this pansy on FICS…
Up to now, everyone I’ve played on FICS has been polite–or at least not rude.
Please meet Thryge. We played a fairly nutty game. He made the proverbial “last mistake” which enabled me to go up 2 Rooks and a Knight for a Queen. After he resigned a few moves later, we had this short exchange:
His observation that I’m a “crap player” was accurate, but everything else was out of line.

Reply to annieThere are lots of butt-napkins at ICC like that too. I must admit sometimes I’m an asshole, like when I lose on time (he has 5 seconds left, it was just a mouse race). I once was like ‘Nice win, congrats on winning the mouse race.’ When in fact time is part of the game for Blitz and I was just being a dickheaded sore loser. I try not to do that, but every now and then when my frustration reaches a peak I become asshole guy. I’ve never censored anyone for beating me though.
So, be glad that you probably ruined his day.

I generally avoid playing people on FICS with the ‘abuser’ tag – because I know how incredibly hard they must have worked to earn it. Frustration I understand but plenty of people go out of their way to be a turd; why this is entertaining is beyond me.

Reply to Thryge@Annie: Calling someone a 1200 would the rough equivalent of “noob” in FICS, since you start with a 1200 rating.
My FICS rating is around 1750, but is not very meaningful. (USCF I’m around 1600).
@BDK: I’ll second “butt napkin” as a great insult.
Do you try to apologize after you’ve cooled down? I know that would mean a lot to me.
@Derek: There’s an “abuser” tag? I have more to learn about FICS apparently.

Reply to DonnieClearly this is the most exciting thing that happened to you all week. Sorry to hear that. Congratulations on winning an internet chess game. If you don’t want to hear back from people, don’t talk to them after the game. Do I really have an abuser tag? I wasn’t sure about that.
