Square off

This afternoon, I cruised by ESPN, their frontpage splash of a “square off” between the boxers Mayweather and Hatton (they have a match this Saturday). 10 minutes later, I was about to IM Sworn Enemy immaturely mocking the homoeroticism overflowing from the 4-letter network’s website, but alas, the picture had already been replaced by another splash.

Fortunately, and thanks to Sworn Enemy’s mad Google skillz, I’m able to present the following evidence in support of the notion that boxers are no more manly than the rest of us–it appears that these so-called tough guys let all their emotion hang out in public…

Mayweather is good. He’s so fast. I’d probably kiss him…, especially with him dressed all nice.

@chessloser: Yar, the second photo is the most…convincing (that’s what ESPN had posted).

@drunknknite: Cor. So there are still people who know something about boxing.

@Annie: OK, so why should I watch Top Gun again? And what does Carlos get out of it???

I don’t know much, I mostly started getting interested in it when all that Ali stuff was on ESPN Classic. But I did watch the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight at Mandalay Bay (the fight was at MGM Grand but Mandalay Bay sold out their events center and had huge TV’s in the middle, it was weird being part of a crowd and still just watching on TV) and Mayweather was clearly better than De La Hoya, although he is a lot smaller. Is this fight this weekend?

LOUD JETS! Aerial dogfight scenes! and lines like “I don’t like you because you’re dangerous.” :)

I guess what Mayweather was saying to Hatton was something to the effect of “It’s going to be just like a Rocky movie but without the Hollywood Ending.” cause Hatton’s been compared to Rocky. And Mayweather came through with the KO, it was an interesting fight and it looked close for a while and then Mayweather just brought it together and killed him.

You probably would have mentioned if they kissed and made up after the fight.

And I hate to say this, but you could have bet on Mayweather simply because Hatton’s a dopey-looking white guy (see also Bradley, Shawn).

Now that you mention it, Mayweather did kiss Hatton on the forehead after speaking with him in the ring after the fight. Hatton may be dopey looking, but he’s a good fighter, Mayweather’s really finding his stride though.
