Tournament of Lepers, Week 1
OK! Pairings are out! Please note there are nine rounds, so everyone will have an unbalanced number of times playing Black and White. I checked the ratings of all participants Sunday night, and gave the players in the lower half 5 Whites.
I stole how to do a round-robin from the Tournament Director for Windows site—figuring out how to get everyone with the correct number of Whites and Blacks is not trivial.
Here is a list of players with their FICS standard ratings. Exceptions: chessloser, since he only played one standard game (used blitz), and Polly with none (used USCF).
10: kevingafni (drunknknite) 1898 9: NoTB (Tacticus Maximus) 1834 8: ppwchess (Polly) 1700 7: RockyRook (Rocky Rook) 1682 6: LiquidEggProduct (Donnie) 1678 5: RLP (Wahrheit) 1671 4: TheDarkKnightTwo (l3rucewayne) 1593 3: Rhuiden (Tom) 1530 2: gorckat (gorckat) 1465 1: mandalorian (chessloser) 1337
I only have a rough idea of your playing strengths, so this may or may not be an accurate reflection of ability, except I’m pretty sure Glenn and Kevin are the strongest (Vegas put each of them at 4:1 odds.
Note the number before your name, because that’s who you are in the following graph (the first player listed gets White):
Week 1 1:10 2:9 3:8 4:7 5:6
Week 2 10:6 7:5 8:4 9:3 1:2
Week 3 2:10 3:1 4:9 5:8 6:7
Week 4 10:7 8:6 9:5 1:4 2:3
Week 5 3:10 4:2 5:1 6:9 7:8
Week 6 10:8 9:7 1:6 2:5 3:4
Week 7 4:10 5:3 6:2 7:1 8:9
Week 8 10:9 1:8 2:7 3:6 4:5
Week 9 5:10 6:4 7:3 8:2 9:1
I will always announce the pairings for the week each Monday explicitly so there is no confusion!

We’ll both be posting the game sometime in the next few days.

Hey, you guys are supposed to keep up the suspense!
Comment by Wahrheit | 13 February 2008
I thought suspense was for future matches played now.
Comment by gorckat | 13 February 2008
Yeah gorckat, you’re right, I guess I was dazed and confused. I mean, what do I think this is a secret Soviet training tournament or something?
Comment by Wahrheit | 13 February 2008
As clarification: future weeks’ games should always be left secret until the week of.
For the current week, it’s up to the players whether they want to have the results released immediately or the following Tuesday. It doesn’t matter to me.
