Week 4 was upset week: chessloser Jokered l3rucewayne, and Wahrheit out-tacticked (sp?) Tacticus.
Just to complete the cheesy synonym for “defeat” thing, Polly scrambled Liquid Egg Product and drunknknite drunk Rocky Rook.
Has anyone heard from gorckat? I suspect he has some stuff going on in life that’s preventing him from chessing, noting his blog hasn’t been updated in a few weeks. Wherever he is, I wish him the best.
And, oh joy, I’ll get to play a furious* Tacticus this week. At least I’ll be White. And the tough half of my schedule will be overwith.
Note on the crosstable: I haven’t calculated any systematic tiebreakers, so the placement’s based on head-to-head matchups first, then randomness.

“Hey Eggman! How about Tuesday night at 7pm Houston time?” Tacticus asked furiously. *

Um… drunknknite drunk Rocky Rook?!? Really?
Off the top of my head maybe even something as lame as drunknknite showed he likes his rooks on the rocks.
You’re better than that Donnie.

Does Furiosity affect Chess players so that they’d win?
I’d think the extra anger would cause people to behave more irrationally, wouldn’t that mean thinking that is less clear and therefore more likely to lose? Or is the argument for chess that it’d make people take greater risks?

@Tacticus: “The time would work well,” LEP responded, er, scrambledly?
@drunknknite: Unfortunately, I’m incapable of much better. It was either that or “drunknknite rocked Rocky Rook”, which sounds way too close to something you could hear on ESPN.
@Tom: No witticism or insight comes to mind as a response. Sorry.
@Chessaholic: If it did sound right, that may be the worse possibility.
@Allen: Do you remember Mr. Furious from Mystery Men? It’s kinda like that.

Now that I’ve lost a game against a player who isn’t one of the top two, I feel more relaxed about the tournament. (Was hoping till then to win all of the other games.) Sadly this will probably lead to more losses. But at least they should be more relaxed ones:-).

You quoted Mystery Men. I die happy now. Very funny movie. William Macy brilliant.

LEP - BIG WIN! Thanks for the cushion.

@l3rucewayne: No way, man! A bunch of us are too close in strength to expect any of the “mortals” to run the table (although Tacticus has proven mortal the past two weeks).
At least you’re not pretending to have a coma to avoid the games…
@Derek: You have great taste. Remember the scene where they had the superhero tryouts? I envision you approaching the table as “The Reassembler” and bragging your superpower is putting together jigsaw puzzles very quickly.
@Tacticus: As we mentioned last night, it’ll be a fascinating game to analyze…but gotta finish Polly’s first.
@Sir Nemo: Unfortunately, this is round-robin, so I can’t stick anyone in, but the next tournament will start in April. I’ll start a sign-up in the next couple weeks.
@drunknknite: The burning desire to have you win the tournament propelled me to victory.

Did you just call me immortal?

Wahrheit-chessloser last night, 1-0.
Comment by Wahrheit | 13 March 2008
@drunknknite: You wear Alex Chiu’s immortality rings every night, right?
I tried to leave a comment on your blog twice, but it keeps saying Blogger is down although I can see everyone’s site…weird.
@Wahrheit: See, now that’s how you lay down the law.
